Glapwell 8 Eccleshill 2

Eccleshill suffered a serious set- back to their Northern Counties East season with a shock Premier Division pasting at Glapwell as they fell apart late in the second half.

It all looked so bright as United took a third-minute lead through James Hanson but it soon started to go wrong as Adam Moran equalised and Ian Brown and Steve Roebuck added further goals before the interval.

United were handed a lifeline in the first minute of the second half when one of their forwards was pulled down in the area and midfielder Chris Rosindale stepped forward to score the resulting penalty.

When the home side sent Craig Housley on, with a little over 20 minutes remaining, it was still only 3-2. Then the home side went goal crazy, adding another five without replay from the stunned visitors.

Housley bagged two and Colin Cockerill also netted a double, Craig Gaunt bagging the other.

United boss Steve Watson said: "I don't know where to start. I'm shocked, to be honest, as we got hammered. In all the time I have been involved in the game, I have never seen anything like it. I'm stuck for words.

"We are a good side when we play but nothing can describe what I witnessed. I would have to make up a new word.

"We went in front and thought that was it. They scored and then another but we felt that was a bit naughty because one of our players, Matt Dempsey, was down with a head injury.

"We turned around at 3-1 down and I went mad. I told them exactly what I expected from them in the second half. We got a penalty, pulled it back to 3-2, and that gave us a chance but we went the other way."

Watson added: "I'm devastated, to be honest. I have never experienced it before and it's hurting. There are no excuses - the players let themselves down, let me down and let the club down.

"We'll get the players in at 7pm tonight and start with a meeting before training to see if there are any issues that need ironing out. As a group we are all going to have to knuckle down and make sure this doesn't happen again. There will be changes for the next game."
