Second-placed Brighouse Town will be looking to keep up the pressure on their two main title rivals by banking another three points at home on Saturday.

The race for the Baris Northern Counties East League Premier Division championship, and the solitary promotion spot that goes with it, is a tight affair with just three possible winners as it stands.

Town are just two points off the summit going into their game against struggling Armthorpe Welfare, who have endured a poor season and are fifth from bottom having also played more games than all the clubs around them.

While Brighouse would hope to land a victory at home, they will be aware that leaders Scarborough Athletic – on the same number of matches – and third-placed Bridlington Town, who are three points behind but with two games in hand, have also got winnable fixtures.

Town’s top-tier neighbours Liversedge and Thackley are both away from home this weekend.

Thackley travel to Pickering Town for what is a big game for both clubs. The hosts are immediately above the Dennyboys in eighth place but by goal difference only and either side could go as high as sixth with a win.

Liversedge journey to Long Eaton United, who are just two places higher but have the comfort of a ten-point cushion over their 15th-placed visitors.

There is a big derby in Division One as Eccleshill United, who have enjoyed a resurgence under former Leeds United striker and ex-Bantams assistant boss Bobby Davison, host title-chasing neighbours Albion Sports.

The Eagles have had some impressive wins during a seven-game unbeaten run, while Albion’s midweek victory took them up to third in the table.

Kulwinder Sandhu’s men are now on 60 points, just seven off the summit with four games in hand on the two clubs above them.

The Eagles may still be a long way off in 14th place but they will not be handing out favours to their cross-city visitors.
