Mark Lawn would love to see 15,000 at Valley Parade tomorrow night to give City a proper homecoming.

The joint-chairman believes the team’s record-breaking efforts have warranted a bumper turn-out for the Dagenham clash.

City turn their attention back to regaining lost ground in League Two after the excitement of Wembley and Lawn wants the same volume of backing that followed them to the Capital One Cup final.

He said: “It would be really nice to see a few more down there tomorrow, maybe at least another 5,000 more than normal. Get 15,000 in – the players deserve that.

“It’s the first game back home after Wembley and we should celebrate what they have achieved. I’d love to see more fans come down and say thanks for everything.

“The players will be ready to go again. We’ve got 45 points to play for this season and everyone is rolling their sleeves up for the fight.”

City’s unprecedented run to the final has drawn attention from across the world. But Lawn is still not expecting any wealthy investors to come knocking.

“It amazes me why people choose to get involved with some Premier League clubs when you see the size of Bradford City. Look at the fan base there at Wembley.

“Okay, we are in the bottom league but it would cost a lot less money taking us up the divisions than buying into someone who’s already there. And you’d get a lot more satisfaction from doing the job.

“I’ve always said that we will listen to any genuine offers but I’m realistic enough to realise that nobody will ring.”

City will look to sort out Phil Parkinson’s new contract now the cup frenzy has died down. All parties are keen to start talking.

Lawn said: “We’ll look to get it done over the next couple of weeks. We want him to stay but it’s got to be at a realistic wage.

“I thought Phil and the players were great ambassadors for Bradford City on Sunday, as they have been throughout the cup run.”

Swansea’s win was a record for the League Cup final as City were blown away. But Lawn reckons Michael Laudrup’s side could have beaten anyone in that form – and is backing them to be a real force in their first dabble in European football.

He added: “Some of Swansea’s football was sparkling. They would have done that to anybody, not just us.

“They are the best team we’ve played anywhere and it will be interesting to see how they do in the Europa League. I can even see them winning it, playing like that.

“But we can be very proud and I’m sure everyone had a good day. I was choking up when our fans started singing and waving their flags with 20 minutes to go. Royal box or no royal box, I stood up and applauded them!

“We’ve created history and I told the lads that. Get your heads up because what we’ve done is amazing.”
