Gildersome Spurs continue to set a hot pace in the Yorkshire Amateur League Senior A Division.

They defeated basement boys Huddersfield Amateur 6-1 and have only dropped two points out of a possible 30 and are nine points behind leaders Grangefield Old Boys with eight games in hand.

However, Spurs had a fright when the visitors took an early lead and then missed a chance to go two goals ahead.

The Amateur's confidence drained with that miss, however,  and Spurs turned on the style with goals from Ben Keedy, Steve Wales and Mike Hall to give them a 3-1 half-time lead.

Three more goals in the second period allowed Hall to complete his hat-trick and there was also a first Senior A Division goal for Josh Hardcastle to complete the scoring.

Grangefield won a potentially difficult match 3-1 at North East Leeds, who are one of the clubs just below them.

The hosts had the better of the first 20 minutes and went ahead from a scrambled goal by Andy Horsman but, just before the interval, Grant Jackson split the home defence for Matt Tomlinson to equalise.

Both teams then wasted chances but a punt upfield by the Grangefield keeper gave Tomlinson the opportunity to add his second goal and the last goal came from Kristian Dacre who, midway through the second half, headed home a Jackson cross at the far post.

Grangefield were indebted to their defence, which was well marshalled by Danny Allenby, and  midfield dynamos Glenn Austwick and Chris Cairns.

Calverley United are clinging by their fingertips to the Senior B Division leadership after a 3-2 setback at Stanningley Old Boys Reserves.

However, the teams immediately beneath them, who have games in hand, are lining up to overtake them.

Stanningley were 2-0 up at the interval through new signing Geoff Clarkson and Jimmy Harrop but Calverley responded well, goals from Phil Gathercole and Chris Cookson meaning they were level by the 65th minute.

However, they were thwarted in the 85th minute by a second Clarkson goal.

An equally good advert for the league came in Division One, where Farsley Celtic Juniors defeated AFC Heckmondwike 5-4.

Juniors are now second in the table, nine points behind Farnley Sports with three games in hand.

Heckmondwike initially took the lead and subsequently caught up on three occasions. Goals for Celtic came from newcomer Andy Cooper (2), Craig Farrand, Sam Bradley and Si McQuiston, who got the decider.

Liam Godwin, with a hat-trick, and a James Tucker header were AFC Heckmondwike's marksmen.

Farnley Sports won 6-2 at Huddersfield Amateur Reserves, the section's leading scorer Tim Smith hitting one for Sports to take his seasonal league tally to 31.

Shane Gaunt's hat-trick made him the second highest scorer on 14, and there was also a brace from Adam Butterworth.

Fourth-placed Gildersome Spurs Old Boys Reserves missed an opportunity at next-to-bottom St Nicholas, drawing 1-1, with Michael Bearpark on target for the second strings and Sean Dawes for St Nicholas.

St Bede's Reserves remain sixth in Division Two but their 2-1 defeat in the dying seconds to Leeds Independent was their sixth home setback in ten matches.

Jerome Yewdall hit his 11th goal of the campaign for St Bede's, Marlon Richards and Joel Cooke replying.

Morley Town extended their lead at the top to six points with a 4-2 home victory over Huddersfield YMCA.

A Chris Pearson hat-trick and a Mark Elliott goal clinched the points after YMCA had recovered rrom 2-0 down to level before half-time.

Mid-table Calverley United Reserves went nap in Division Three with a fifth straight home victory, this time beating Shire Academic Reserves 6-0. Goals came from Lee Bryant (2), Steve Wells (2), James Todd and Ryan Craven.

Kris Balodis, Warwick French, Ian Horrocks and George Nash were on target for St Bede's Thirds in Division Five, who defeated bottom club Old Batelians Thirds 4-2, the losers replying via James Byrne and Jamie Bennett.
