SIR - A lady in front of me in a Bradford centre store the other looked embarrassed because she knew she smelt of urine. She appeared to be over 60 years of age (like me) but could not find an accessible toilet without having to walk up to either the Arndale or Oastler markets. She and I were at the lower end of the city, we chatted and she explained she'd hidden in a bush to wee.
Bradford Council are closing down public 'conveniences' wherever they can. Will they provide incontinence pads for those in need, ie us oldies, mums with daughters out shopping, or will they turn a blind eye to ladies relieving themselves wherever they can find a discreet place?
If our councillors put a few pence on our rates to fund keeping our lavatories accessible, then just maybe more OAPs - apparently us older folks with pots of money! - may visit Bradford’s centre shops more often.
