SIR - It is noticeable that Boris Johnson had been severely criticised by the Left for his comments regarding the Burka. In the past, both Cherie Blair, the wife of the former Prime Minister and the Guardian journalist Poly Toynbee had been critical of it. Both of these renegades of the Left had described the Burka as being detrimental to women and Toynbee had recommended that cultural sensitivities should be disregarded when assessing its relevance in a secular society.

It is noticeable that neither were accused of Islamophobia or subject to the same hysteria as had been directed towards Mr Johnson. It would seem that two standards are in progress; the Left or Progressives control the agenda and decide what is acceptable while the Right or Traditionalists are condemned for challenging or disregarding those imposed values.
