SIR - Once again travellers illegally occupy a site in Bradford, this time at Brackenhill Park in Great Horton (T&A, June 27).

The Council will now have to take the matter to court, at a cost to us all, to obtain an eviction order. In the meantime, as ever, no doubt the park will be desecrated with mess and damage everywhere.

What cost, one wonders, will fall on the travellers for all this, and will they be prosecuted? I think we all know the answer to that one!

For far too long Governments of all political persuasions have pussyfooted around this issue.

The time is now well past for all such occupations, whether on public or private land, to be classed as a criminal offence with the expectation that culprits will be moved on immediately by the police, and be charged for any damage caused.

It really can't come soon enough.
