SIR – May I, through your column, say a big thank you to the police, also to the lady at the information kiosk in the Arndale Centre, who was so kind to me when I had my purse stolen.

How it happened I can’t imagine, as my handbag was on my arm and zipped up, with my purse inside. When I got to the counter of the shop I was in, my bag was open with my purse missing.

I was given a crime number, which I rang when I got home. The next morning the police came to see me and asked whether I all right, and took a statement from me.

So I would like to say thank you again, and shoppers, be careful!
