SIR – Congratulations to John Pashley (Letters, July 2) for his brilliant idea of Bradford Council buying Valley Parade and leasing it back for City and Bulls to ground-share. Both clubs would pay a lower rent, but the Council would gain two rents from the same piece of land, and purchasing real estate rarely fails.
Apart from the benefits to schools and local clubs which Mr Pashley pointed out, maybe part of the deal could be in getting all clubs (both professional and amateur) and schools to get our communities fitter, particularly the younger members.
I’m sure that local surgeries and hospitals would welcome the populace getting healthier, and would probably get involved. The result of all this may see Bradford once again showing the nation the way forward by having the lowest instances of obesity in the land.
Come on Bradford Council. You know Bradford has historically led the way. Let’s do it again. Who knows where the positive publicity would lead, and it would be all thanks to a progressive council?
