SIR – My answer to Mark Neale, ‘Beeching not to blame’ (Letters, June 13) is, why did Beeching lift the line along the Spen Valley? Why didn’t British Railways keep the lines in place, “just in case”.
The people of Brighouse line up in jams, trying to get up Huddersfield Road during rush hour. They come from Spen Valley, to the Chain Bar roundabout, which is just as bad as Saltaire. It’s a nightmare getting on to this with the M62.
If they want us off the roads, then put more lines back in place. Give people an option, ask them if they’ll use the trains.
