SIR – The news that the MPs and Gerry Sutcliffe are working together to save the jobs at Thomas Cook is surprising – but very welcome.

It’s vital that members of our political establishment should work together, rather than spend their time trying to score political points.

This could be a lesson to be learned in City Hall, where the new Labour leadership is showing no signs of willingness to work together with the Respect councillors to work out solutions to the many problems which afflict this great city.
