SIR – I have followed recent correspondence regarding charity bags with interest. Between three and five bags arrive through my letter box each week. Leaving unused bags out for collection does not work and many of the charities ask you not to do this, but to save them for future use. May I make the following suggestions to the charities concerned.
1) Instead of bags deliver a small note with details of the charity and date and time of collection. The note to be fastened to any bag put out by the householder as a means of identifying goods for collection.
2) Those charities that have shops could provide bags in the shops for people to take home to fill and return as do British Heart Foundation.
