After reading your article in Saturday’s T&A (June 9), I feel compelled to write to you regarding the commissioning of a ceremonial mace.

Bradford College have been heavily criticised for the use of a mace on their students’ graduation day. I feel this is unwarranted and so unfair.

Why shouldn’t Bradford College use a mace on graduation day? The students have put in a great deal of effort over the years into completing their courses. Don’t they deserve to have a special graduation ceremony?

My view is ‘well done Bradford College!’ If it’s still good enough for the Queen and Parliament to use a mace, it’s also good enough for our students.

George Galloway said the mace was “ludicrous”. I find this hard to swallow coming from an MP who humiliated himself on Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother.

I feel that it would be a nice experience for all students to graduate from college in a lavish ceremony including the mace as students feel so proud receiving their certificates. They’ll remember the occasion for the rest of their days.
