SIR – It wasn’t so long ago that I recall everyone being told by the people in authority over us that they could not call me ‘fatty’ because that was offensive. They should use the technically-correct term ‘obese’.
Now, apparently, we are told that the term ‘obese’ is no longer acceptable, because everybody knows it really means ‘fatso’.
I’m not sure what the new guidance is going to be about yet another new replacement term. In the meantime, I suggest those of my friends who are anxious to toe the official line might choose to call me ‘Mr Blobby’.
