SIR – Re ‘£2.9 million houses scheme for site unveiled’ (T&A, May 12).

As chairman of Oakdale Residents Association, I wish to express my concerns at Yorkshire Housing Association selling land for family houses. There are enough houses being built on Ravenscliffe, but nothing again for the elderly.

Yorkshire Housing stated that bungalows were not viable due to the land at Oakdale. It seemed OK when Brunel Housing built two-storey flats. Also, there are around 50 bungalows on Oakdale which have been there for 40 years.

Some of the new houses being built are three storeys and the developers are digging more than 12ft to put in foundations. How much extra is that costing?

Why can’t the Council see that there is a need for somewhere for the elderly to live? A bungalow or sheltered complex would be ideal. Houses are for families.

Local councillors do not live in the area, they do not understand how it will affect the residents of Oakdale. There should have been a consultation meeting between the housing association, developers, councillors and residents of Oakdale so that we could express our concerns.
