SIR – How can it be right that the Council has paid one of its members £12,000 to chair some obscure panel for meeting only once a year, and then to read that some Bradford youngsters are going to school hungry?

If the councillor in question has read the article, surely in all conscience she should return the £12,000 to help finance something that is a necessity.

There are so many of our citizens who do voluntary work on a daily basis, day after day, week after week and year after year, receiving no monetary reward, so how must it look to them to see someone receive £12,000 for doing nothing?

If this panel necessitates so few meetings then surely it should be amalgamated with another obscure panel that we know nothing about.
