SIR – In that desperately cold spell last winter, all those offensive wind-turbines remained resolutely unproductive due to the complete absence of wind.
Now this winter, when a decent bit of breeze blows across Scotland, we see turbines blown over, some even exploding in flames and the rest shut down because it’s too windy for the poor dears, thus confirming the sad truth that they are all about generating subsidies, rather than electricity.
And all the while our trusty coal, oil, gas, nuclear and hydro power stations are quietly doing their job of providing reliable electricity when and where we need it.
We shouldn’t really smile at the windmills’ exposure but, let’s face it, right now there’s not a dry seat in the house.
