SIR – I am putting pen to paper about an idea I have to solve the current theft of drain and sewer covers by the criminal element in Bradford.

This problem is vastly rising and every time one is stolen for scrap, the Council has to replace them with a heavy duty non-metal one.

Why don’t the Council go round all the streets in the Bradford area and change the covers before they are stolen.

Then the Council can weigh the metal ones in themselves and put all the money that is made towards vital public services the community and disabled people rely on that are being cut through this Government’s austere financial measures.

It would be interesting to hear from an applicable Council employer on their thoughts on this idea.
