SIR – Readers may not be aware that the proposed Forster Square redevelopment will include car parking for more than 1,300 vehicles, according to the Westfield brochure.

May I ask what will be the impact on road congestion and air quality by providing so much parking space? Perhaps City Hall would like to comment?

Geographically, Bradford and Sheffield are very similar. Recently, Sheffield Council refused planning permission for two supermarkets to expand because air pollution from vehicles was at levels to cause concern and road congestion was a problem.

During the last year, 1,300,000 people have given up driving due to the high cost. How many of these people live in Bradford? Surely a five-figure number.

We are living in fast-changing times and the public are flocking back to the railway in their millions with the result we have a national shortage of trains and stations.

Councillor Pennington’s ideas for Bradford Cross Rail deserve the support of the public. It will help to reduce road congestion and improve air quality.

Network Rail’s latest Route Utilisation Strategy for this area clearly states that it intends to electrify both transpennine routes between Leeds and Manchester. This means there will be no problem operating electric trains south from Forster Square using Cross Rail to the Interchange.
