SIR - I'm looking for information on Kathleen McColgan, born in Bradford on January 4, 1914. My area of interest is in the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War and I'm trying to get inforomation on any Irish involvement in that war.
Kathleen McColgan (sometimes spelt McCogan) was a BA graduate of Oxford who joined the London University Ambulance Unit in February 1937. That unit was allied with Quakers in Britain and America to run the Southern Hospitals in Mercia and Almeria in Southern Spain during the civil war. She served in the Murcia hospital, near Malaga.
She spoke at meetings in Belfast on March 23, 1938 and later in April as a member of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief. She spoke of "her experiences in Spain and the problem of Spanish refugees".
Kathleen McColgan was working as a journalist during the Second World War. Does anyone remember her? Can anyone give me details on her?
