SIR – In the week that we read in the T&A that Bradford had been unsuccessful in the bid for Enterprise Zone funding, we also read that Bradford has the third most congested roads in the country.
Thirdly, our MP Philip Davies condemns the proposed totally inappropriate development at Micklethwaite, Bingley (a stone’s throw from the World famous Five Rise Locks).
No Enterprise Zone funding and serious traffic congestion only serve to underline that the Aire Valley cannot take the extra traffic caused by 400 plus dwellings (on this site alone) and that, with few employment possibilities in the area, these homes are likely to be bought by people employed in Leeds.
This development will only fill up crowded commuter trains to bursting point, clog up roads and parking in the Bingley district, create havoc with local services and destroy an amenity which draws people to this area from all over the world.
And why? To provide affordable starter homes for Bradford people? NO! The large number of unsold flats in Bingley is testimony to that.
Any income to Council coffers will be vastly outweighed by the extra costs of education, infrastructure, etc, so why is Bradford Council even considering sacrificing Bingley?
