SIR – I was amused at the recent letter headed “Passing point on” (T&A, June 28) by your correspondent Gordon Steff, of Shipley, in defence of a recent letter by Karl Dallas, and whereas Mr Steff is rather flippant and sarcastic about the Secular or as he prefers to call it “Atheism” movement, it was his complete disdain and apparent contempt of the people of Bradford, who according to him did not understand nor were intelligent enough to understand the meaning of atheism.
I am afraid, Mr Steff, it is you that is the ignorant one, not the good people of Bradford. Daily you must have passed dozens of secularists who, unlike religious bodies, do no advertise their beliefs. As to your belief they should be organised, it is simply not necessary as Secularism is known and feared worldwide.
Secularism organises itself as for example India with its myriad of religious bodies cannot govern without being “Secular” as similarly Bradford Council. Secularism is the only way forward in so many ways, so have another think Mr Steff and please do not be so patronising.
