SIR - The expected demise of the Odeon has overtones of the early Seventies when Kirkgate Market was under threat.
Like today, when the Odeon campaigners are largely dismissed as archaic sentimentalists, the old market supporters were dubbed a bunch of eccentric students who were out of touch with reality.
Ordinary shoppers looked on in bewilderment on that fateful date when the students carried a symbolic coffin in protest.
The shoppers' apathy symbolised the apathetic Silent Majority who let it happen.
