SIR – While I wish David Wootton well in his quest to become Lord Mayor of London, I am afraid that he will not be the first from the city. Bracewell Smith was the Lord Mayor of London in 1946.
As one of the comments added to the article online points out, Bracewell Smith was born and bred in Keighley.
However, Keighley became part of your city in 1974, and our history became your history. Please do not deprive us of that as well.
If, as it seems, that Keighley is not regarded as part of the city, could the relevant authority arrange a date for the elections to Keighley Borough Council and return its possessions, if they have not already been sold off. The Keighley area could then look forward to a brighter future using its own – and Government – resources for its own regeneration and return to deciding its own future.
Thanking Bradford in anticipation of its co-operation.
