SIR - I agree with Shazad Parvez and the disbelief he feels towards local MPs in their recent criticisms of BBC newsreader George Alagiah and his concerns about segregation here in Bradford (T&A August 26).

In denying such problems exist, the MPs are effectively engaging in an exercise in political correctness. Thankfully MP Ann Cryer refused to play this cynical game and came out in agreement with Alagiah.

The reality is that most people know full well that segregation exists big time here in Bradford. Worse still, with many speaking Urdu in such neighbourhoods, thereby alienating English-speaking locals, it's difficult to see how relations between different communities improve.

How can we possibly understand one another when we speak different languages? Only when English becomes the main language spoken in local neighbourhoods can we begin to harbour hopes of achieving genuine harmony, which is surely the best way forward for all of us.
