SIR – With a developing nuclear crisis in Japan, I never cease to be amazed by the complacency of the fans of nuclear power in Britain.

I would not dismiss the possibility of nuclear being part of the way future energy needs are met, even if it does seem to remain dangerous technology, but to claim, as many experts one hears or reads in the media are doing, that events in Japan don’t amount to anything significant is a bit much.
