The talk so far about the development earmarked for the former Odeon site has mainly centred on what the buildings which will replace the old theatre and cinema will actually look like.

Now that the finer detail of what will actually be included on the site is emerging, it is throwing out some interesting propositions.

One of them is to bring Bradford College on to the development and give the establishment a much more high-profile city centre presence.

Bradford is already well known as a university city, but even the bulk of those buildings are some distance from the city centre and Bradford College itself has its own identity and a wide range of courses.

Bringing Bradford College into the city centre will not only give the students more access to the centre of the city but will also give people more idea of what goes on there, especially with the vocational courses such as hair and beauty, catering and sport.

Those who think of a college as being staid classrooms with rows of desks might be surprised at the hi-tech and interactive nature of today's learning at Bradford.

The more cross-pollination between students and the general population, with those from Bradford College immersing themselves in the community and those from outside the college taking an interest in what goes on within its walls, the better.
