SIR - Why would the so-called panel of experts wish to construct such an ugly building to replace the Odeon? Bradford has almost been stripped of all its heritage. There are very few old buildings for the future generation to see where their parents worked and spent their leisure.

The Odeon or Gaumont is where older generations spent many hours either in the cinema, the ballroom, cafe or seeing a show, so why can't this be retained instead of apartments (there are so many of those in the city centre now and so few places of entertainment), a hotel (where are the people coming from to fill this?) and offices (how many empty offices are there in the centre of Bradford?).

Whoever has thought up these plans and others has not considered the general public in Bradford. It is aiming in the main for university-goers and the younger people.

Where do the parents with young children go for a safe evening out in the city centre or the older person other than the Alhambra or the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television?

As far as the lake goes, this sounds great in an ideal world but it isn't an ideal world and it would end up full of litter, shopping trolleys and the like.
