SIR – Coun John Hall, in response to my letter, compares the promise parents may make to their children to the pledge the Lib Dems made to the nation on student fees (Letters, January 24). Is he really on this planet? There is no comparison.
I said in my letter that the Lib Dems broke their promise when they got a whiff of power, not after they entered government, as Mr Hall tries to claim.
Thus, the act of treachery took place then. And yes, the Labour Party walked away from the talks with the Lib Dems as a matter of principle – something the Lib Dems are bereft of.
You only have to look at what Vince Cable and some of his colleagues said when they thought they were talking to their constituents and how quickly they back-tracked when they were exposed.
