SIR – I was rather surprised to learn that the authorities have a statutory duty to provide libraries in prisons, but not in schools.

Is not the provision of books in schools absolutely vital for a child’s education – especially in primary schools?

If our libraries were to close, young children will be deprived of the story time sessions held in most of the district’s libraries.

If our libraries were to close, I wonder if somebody could tell me where the nearest prison is, so that I could make use of its library!
