SIR – I note that in your editorial (T&A, December 23) you are pleased that we may all be comforted by the fact that the gang of low-life who have been stealing prestige cars are now safely tucked away in prison.
But the maximum individual sentence appears to be five-and-a-half years or so, which means the recipient will be at large again in about two to three years.
You hype it up by saying that, collectively, they have received 60 years. Not much comfort. Now, 60 years each, with a review after the first 40 years, that would really send out a message to the criminal fraternity, wouldn’t it?
Wishful thinking, but I live in hope!
