SIR – After reading a letter by Graham Hoyle (T&A, December 23) describing wind turbines as “offensive and inefficient”, I felt compelled to respond to this by sharing my personal experience of this type of ‘green’ energy production.
Ten weeks ago, I had a wind turbine installed at my property after several months of in-depth research and many visits to a variety of sites and different types of turbine.
During the past ten weeks I have generated more than 2,700 KW of electricity of which I have used 700 KW and sent the remainder into the national grid.
The full purchase price of this wind turbine was paid for by me. As far as I know grants are not available.
I would like to respond to the term “offensive” by saying that there are telegraph poles, street lamps and pylons everywhere – is there much difference? I would also like to compare the view of a nuclear power station!
It’s about time that people are encouraged to invest in these type of things and protect the environment for future generations.
