SIR – Re Keith Thomson’s letter on the Becker wind turbine, this is designed to go on top of buildings and indeed is very small compared to the giant ones in the sea around our shores.
This new concept design collects the wind from any direction and has no turbine blades, making it 75 per cent more effective.
Let’s not forget everything can be improved. With some imagination, couldn’t our designers at Bradford University come up with a design that could operate, not on a building, but on the ground?
When this is achievable, big ones can be built, then we will be on to a winner.
So I say to our university designers, look at the design of the Becker wind turbine, take onboard the new innovations, make improvements and it will add to a better environment for the planet and its inhabitants.
