SIR How pleasing it was to read about the reunion of mill workers at Listers Mill (T&A, July 17).
My abiding memories of my time at Listers (1966 to 1977) were rubbing shoulders against the likes of Mary Hoddy, who competed in the 1936 Olympics and won medals in the gymnastics events.
Then there was Herbert Shaw, a great boxer who beat the great Marcel Cerdan, a world champion.
I worked in the pattern weaving section, making samples for the likes of M&S, Burtons, Dunnes and other companies who would then make substantial orders for our excellent material.
For my first day at Listers, as I walked up Oak Lane and saw the sheer vastness of the mill, it was a bit daunting but once inside the people made me very welcome. Happy times.
