SIR - I write to add my voice to the debate surrounding the announcement of the so-called' Roman Catholic reorganisation of secondary education (T&A, July 18).
As a serving teacher in Bradford for 31 years, I think I know a bit about the local education scene. A school of 2,900 pupils is completely ludicrous, in my view. Bussing pupils ten or more miles across the city is equally so.
South Bradford certainly merits a high school in my view and the Tong campus has 31 splendid acres of land!
My last objection is the effect it will have upon Tong & Yorkshire Martyrs Sixth Form College. We are one of the largest and most cost-effective sixth forms in the city, offering a really wide provision of courses.
Our advanced pass rate last year was 98 per cent. When last inspected in February 2005, the lead post-16 Ofsted inspector commented: "I've inspected 206 sixth forms, and I've never inspected a better one!"
It makes little sense to me to put such quality of provision in jeopardy. Save TYM, it's too good to lose.
