SIR - May I through your paper congratulate staff and students of Haycliffe School, Little Horton, - now Haycliffe School and Specialist Sports College - for being awarded specialist status.
This was awarded due to its national and regional name for sports, the arts and the quality of its teaching and learning by the Department of Education.
Haycliffe is now one of only 14 special schools in the country to hold this award.
This award is in addition to sports mark gold, arts mark gold and 2003 school achievement award, all well earned through dedicated staff and students who strive to work and achieve their best.
A status earned and received while under the threat of closure in the special schools reorganisation. Well done, Haycliffe!
