SIR – Alan O’Day Scott, in his letters of September 1 (“My hopes for peace”) and September 3 (“Not so good natured”) presents a very biased view of the situation in the Middle East, at the same time point-scoring off a previous contributor (Mubarik Iqbal) and a rapper (apparently present at the Unite Against Facism counter protest), who both expressed views contrary to his, it would seem.
Mr O’Day Scott might read chapter two of journalist John Pilger’s book Freedom Next Time and, perhaps, take a more balanced view of the Middle East based on historical fact, realise that both his antagonists had something valid to say (their opinions, all be they) and conclude that peace in that area will probably only be found when the West ceases to meddle in Middle Eastern affairs in its quest for oil.
On a lighter note, apropos the picture used by the T&A to illustrate the “good naturedness” of the Unite Against Facism event in Exchange Square.
I really have seen more fearsome crowds pushing prams and buggies from Bradford primary schools at half past three of an afternoon having collected their kids! Arthur Waterhouse, Barmby Road, Bradford
