SIR – Like the majority of the people of Ilkley, I was appalled at the decision to allow the building of a new Tesco superstore, because not only will it make a ‘ghost town’, by the closure of many of our small shops in the town centre, but it will be the ‘death knell’ of Ilkley as a desirable tourist destination, loved by many for the wonderful Grove and Brook Street shopping area.
It would seem to me, however, to stop this happening, we must carry on the fight by:
1. Consideration of any appeal
2. Writing to our MP to use his influence
3. Launch an immediate boycott of Tesco, so they will know how our small businesses will feel on losing custom.
