SIR – Halton Homes have practically finished five townhouses on the bank of the River Aire, creating an extended cul-de-sac at Southlands Grove, Bingley.

They bought two large houses, demolished their beautiful gardens (cutting down a great many mature trees) and built these townhouses in these gardens.

In my opinion the townhouses are ugly monstrosities, totally out of keeping with the area; truly a blot on the landscape.

Of course, planning permission was given even though there were a great many objections from residents.

We were not even consulted about the development as we live on Beech Street; however, the houses are practically in our back garden.

I have rung the councillors responsible for the decision to ask them to visit this site. The reply was: “We never visit these sites once permission has been given.”

Surely planners ought to see the results of their decisions: the impact they have on the landscape and surrounding homes? Surely it would help them to become more discerning and responsible if they were to see what was on paper translated into reality?
