SIR – I know that Bradford Council too often attracts criticism, but not on this occasion. I and many others would like to thank Marcia Churley and all the team from Bradford West Area for organising Clayton Fun Day in the park.

It was fine and warm and the event brought together many Clayton groups including the schools, churches, the history group, the library and our splendid village hall, which provided refreshments.

The ‘fun day’ was just that – it was free and enjoyed by young and old, with the combined efforts of the schools being extremely popular.

I was interested in the “face painting”, but at 74 my wife insisted it was only for the young. Ah well!

There were rabbits and huge insects to delight or otherwise young and old. You could try a selection of Irish musical instruments, play snakes and ladders and numerous other things. The ‘village’ had come together to enjoy a really special day.

Should this be repeated? Should it be an annual event? Without doubt it should.

So thanks to everyone who attended, took part, and again to Bradford Council. This was a huge and much appreciated success.
