SIR – So, you now believe that the Council should have the courage of its convictions and demolish the Odeon to provide a car park for non-existent shoppers and sparse leisure seekers?

Your presumption that you know the convictions of the Council does not ring true, for now that Yorkshire Forward is running for cover and Hopkins has gone, the Conservatives, through their leader Ann Hawkesworth, favour retention – as do the Liberals through the recorded views of Janet Sunderland.

It is also known that a significant number of Labour councillors want to keep the building, and Ian Greenwood is far too astute to continue with an unpopular Conservative policy.

It is the T&A which has lost credibility through propping up the obviously flawed policies of BCR and YF, and the laughing stock connotation is now laid at your door.

John Pashley, Westcliffe Avenue, Baildon

EDITOR’S NOTE: The T&A has consistently stated our belief that it is in the best interests of the whole district that this building be replaced. That is nothing new: it was our view before BCR came along and has nothing to do with Yorkshire Forward or the Council. It is merely our opinion based on our understanding of the facts and the lack of any credible and fully-funded alternative – an opinion we are as entitled to voice as you are to disagree with.
