SIR – Introducing English language tests for immigrants before they are allowed into Britain to join their partners is the best move that Britain has taken in years.

Sadly, it should have been done years ago.

We are at a point where some of our children are growing up speaking broken English. At long last we are starting on the right footing.

Now we are on the subject, can we get our teachers to teach the children how to pronounce their vowels when they are speaking?

I have noticed that some of our teachers cannot pronounce their vowels, is it because thy can’t be bovverd?
