SIR – Re the letter ‘Flags clue to driving’ from Graham Hoyle (T&A, June 11). How dare Mr Hoyle condemn the patriotism of those who choose to support the England football team?

Displaying these flags has no bearing on the owners’ driving ability, but it does show that, as a nation, we care about those who choose to represent our country in the World Cup.

In such dire times as we find ourselves now, is it such a crime to want to get behind the England team and give them some moral support?

I acknowledge there is some appalling driving going on in Bradford, but fail to see the correlation between that and patriotism.

Today, as I go about Bradford, it warms my heart to see car after car (and many houses) displaying their support for the team. The daily papers are full of tales of how selfish and uncaring we can be as a nation, so to see such a unified response shows we are bothered about our country.

Before Mr Hoyle asks – yes, I do have a flag on my car!
