SIR – Two out of three of the main party leaders (David Cameron and Nick Clegg) went to private schools where the fees per year are considerably more than the average salary in Bradford.

The schools which they attended (both in London, of course) charge more than £28,000 per year.

I believe it is impossible for anyone from such a background to truly understand the needs of the people of Bradford.

Indeed, I find it remarkable that parties continue to offer Northerners private school boys who have never been to an ordinary school and know little of what it is to struggle in life.

We need more women, more people from ethnic minorities and more state-school educated leaders if they are to truly represent the vast majority of us. We don’t want the Boris Johnsons of this world to be in control.
