SIR – It was very disappointing that our politically-correct police decided to scaremonger by advising some pub managers in the city centre to close around dinner-time on St George’s Day because 3,000 English Defence League supporters were going to turn up in Centenary Square.
As far as I’m aware, there was no truth in this. St George’s Day is a time when we should all come together as one, but we don’t get the chance as I feel that the police don’t want a sea of red and white in the town centre in case it offends.
Well, not allowing it offends me. Probably expect more when England play in the World Cup.
