SIR – Imagine it is school sports day. There are three boys in a race representing blue yellow and red teams.

The blue boy gets past the post first, but because he did not win by enough, the second boy is declared the winner by the third boy.

I was always taught that two wrongs don’t make a right and certainly two losers do not make a winner.

What a nonsense the system that says it could.
