SIR – Why on earth is A Shipman wanting to ban all professional sport as well as advocating the closure of large supermarkets on Good Friday and Easter Sunday? (Letters, April 7).
For goodness sake, this is a time for celebration as it commemorates the resurrection of Christ after his crucifixion, signifying God’s vindication of Jesus.
Mascagni got it right when he composed the Easter Hymn for his opera Cavalleria Rusticana, which includes the words: ‘All rejoice for the Lord hath arisen’. Why Mr Shipman and others of that ilk never propose a moratorium on TV transmissions is conjectural, but one can made an educated guess.
