SIR Re Mike Priestley's excellent contribution in North of Watford (T&A, May 13) in his comments on the Brown takeover, he did not mention that Brown and the party cannot rely on the word of Blair, who is known to break promises.

There is even a suggestion that the failed politician Lord Kinnock, the former European Commissioner, whose remit was to put an end to corruption in Brussels, may be called upon to witness any clandestine agreement between Blair and Brown and one would take Kinnock's word?

What an administration; no wonder some judges refer to us as a Banana Republic what an insult to any of the latter!
