SIR – As I look across from City Hall at the demolition of the awful buildings that are making way for the City Park, it is easier to imagine just how fantastic it would have been to have had a refurbished Odeon, with its magnificent towers, complementing those of the Alhambra.
How great it would have been to have at least kept the towers (as one of the entries in the international design competition proposed) in any new development, but to have had a middle section which could have reflected the park, the pool and City Hall itself.
How frustrating it has been to have had the building purchased with our public money but in the ownership of an invisible quango, totally impervious to public opinion. How badly we have been let down.
