SIR – I feel I have to write about the bus fare increases Metro and First Bus are imposing.

Weekly travel for bus commuters will be more difficult as they try to find the money, and shops and business will see the difference to their takings, etc.

If they want more people to use the buses and to get out of their cars, First Bus must give more incentives to users by charging less, not more.

We are also hearing that there should be a hold on wage increases this year. It just doesn’t make sense.

If we are to have a public transport system to be proud of, the bus company must listen to the public who want to use the buses at affordable prices.

It’s going to end up with workers looking for jobs nearer to home than travelling and more people will be taking to their cars.
